A Manifesto; Why I Love Speed Racer!

You might think that it is odd for an adult woman to be so taken with a children's movie, but until you have seen Speed Racer I beg that you not judge me or it too harshly. In order to defend myself I am prepared to outline here the reasons for my deep love for this movie.

There is of course visual appeal of the entire movie, which is twofold. I adore the use of color throughout the film. The entire film is bright and using every color in the rainbow. I have never seen anything like it! I am a sucker for originality. The second layer of visual appeal takes the forms of Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer) and Scott Porter (Racer Rex). With such boyish good looks afoot how could you not like the film. See IMDB for the proof.

Second, there is of course the nostalgic nature of my feelings for this film. Although, Speed Racer the show was before my time, my older brothers loved the show and would often watch the reruns when they were aired on MTV. I spent many hours of my childhood watching the cartoon Speed Racer, and so my affections for the character run deep.

Finally, there is the originality of the film. It is like no other film that I have seen, and you must appreciate that. It is clever, this of course includes the monkey humor for which I have always nurtured a soft spot. It made me laugh and put a smile on my face. Thus all I have to say is go speed racer go!
